Wiring in french campsites may not be well earthed - use a tester plug priority a droite also exits for side roads in some french towns and villages use the town and village aires motorway aires may be risky

Very informative. I have a ferry booked for 9th September from Holyhead to Dublin and was planning to stay 11 nights but only going as far North as Sligo staying only one night on each place. Is this long enough? Also our dog is on raw food and have been told that we can't take that with us as not met is allowed to be taken to Ireland from UK? Never wild camped before so a little unsure about it. Booked a site in Dungarvan for our first night.

A crit air sticker is cheap and easy to apply for, I’d suggest anyone motorhoming in France gets one so you don’t have to think about the zones. If you’ve left it late you can apply anyway as the records will show you have one even if it’s not in your van. Rouen tends to be the main issue as it is on the way to many other destinations from Calais.

The Priority à doit is becoming increasingly popular in small villages and towns as a way to slow traffic. I live in Brittany and have seen this increase over the last 10 years. Also it applies to all roads in the villages / towns not just roundabouts. There is normally a signpost at the start of the village.

If you are going to give info to visitors to France, please give accurate information rather than just creating links that earn you money eg Angles Morts stickers are a requirement for vehicles over 3500kg in the whole of France not just bits of it as you suggest

    • @WanderingBird
      @WanderingBird 10 дней назад

🤦‍♀️ so, to clarify, is your issue that I share a link to the stickers or that you think I should lie to people so they buy more stickers?? Please check your facts before you leave daft comments- you just look foolish 🙄🙄

A note re crit air stickers, Strasbourg on the German border is a beautiful place and worth adding to the French tour itinerary, but it's a low emissions zone, including getting to the camp site. The sticker is less than a fiver for most vehicles, just get it and fit it, never need to think about it again.

What motorhome equipment is actually polarity critical? Even in France mains is alternating current. For 99.99% of stuff it makes no difference.

  • @billovsky

as long as there is an earth connection, it does not matter. if there is no earth connection, just don't plug, no matter if it's reversed or not!

Re crit-air. I think I read that it’s possible France may close a region if pollution in that region hits a certain level, as such you would need a critical-air to pass through.

  • @robertclayton2920

Kat. I’m sorry but you are wrong about driving through Paris. So long as you don’t travel through during rush hour, the traffic flows very well indeed. I’ve gone to Spain every year since 2012 and never ever had a problem, and that’s pulling a caravan and in a motorhome!

Thanks Kat, great advice as always! On the Crit'Air stickers they're not expensive (something like 4 euros plus postage) and last the lifetime of the vehicle so might be worth it for some "just in case". We added one to our van after advice from friends as Rouen is a crit'air zone and the sat navs can easily take you through the zone as the autoroute doesn't go round and you end up going through part of the town to get back on the other side. Also as we were going round Paris there were roadworks that diverted us into a crit'air zone and back out, so we played safe and had one just in case.

Great video thanks, just a comment on #4 the black cross, Priority A Droit, as you say meaning give way to vehicles coming from the right. They are quite frequent still in towns and around villages where i live in Brittany and not just on roundabouts, i treat them as a rolling stop places as where they are can seem confusing and random. On aires, our tiny village has an lovely little aire, its so pretty we often go there to picnic ! 😊

Spare bulbs - I don’t think it’s a legal requirement to carry spare bulbs, but it is illegal to drive with a faulty light, so it is good practice to carry spares. My dilemma is that all my rear lights are LED lights, which in theory last for years without needing to replace them; and they don’t take replacement bulbs like ordinary lights, and you need to replace a whole light fitting which costs £48 each plus £30 delivery from Europe as they’re not stocked in the UK. They are all individual lights (2 x indicator, 2 x tail/brake, reversing & fog light), so should I carry 3 spares (excepting the fog light isn’t essential) in the rare event of an LED failing (maybe never in 5-8 years or so) or if one happens to get damaged in a minor prang (oops, just happened in Scotland)? Any views?

Fantastic video - thank you; I am just researching and thinking of doing this; I have never driven a motorhome so feel a little worried but am sure I can do this. So much useful information. I love you dog - he looks very happy. I too found this channel by chance and want to watch more. The reason I want to do this is for the lifestyle and places you can go but also because I need to stay in my home county of Kent quite a bit due to family illness but have a house in Scotland as my husband is Scots; I don't want to keep renting in Kent which I am having to do at present to stay near family and this seems the perfect solution plus we can go places in it. I have two cats but am sure they will adapt. I am trying to persuade my husband about this; I think he is slowly coming round to this. It's a bit step but it feels right. Thank you for this and you video about powering the motorhome - that was so useful. Anyway, I am having a great time looking at motorhomes online and had looked at the Swift motorhomes which seem really nice so this has been really helpful. Thank you so much Michelle

I’ve watched this and the video on lithium batteries but quite honestly Kat, I find the whole concept of off gridding a complete mystery still! For an idiot such as I, could you do a video where you arrive on site and show us exactly what you do because my husband is so anti off grid as he says we couldn’t last a night! Ie, no telly no netflicks, no starlink, and he has a sleep pap machine which require a three pin ac mains feed. 😢. (That where I thought the eco flow would work)…Recently we were in a site that was metered and we used £6 a night on electric (which I found quite a shock given we only watched to in the dark and ran his sleep machine), but I feel that we could have explored the “free” option already on the Motorhome!! It’s like trudging through sand getting through to my hubby 😅!

I've randomly found you. Very enjoyable and informative. :) Cute pup. I have two old cats, which is why I don't want a towable RV. If you haven't chucked the fridge door shelf, maybe you can use stick-on picture hooks, at various angles, (or the sticky tape that comes with them) to get it to work again. I'm hoping to pick up a 19' RV, with rear kitchen and wet bath, next weekend. Anything I really, really want, is either too far away or gone by the time I can get to it. Cheers. Maybe I'll get lucky this time. :) Jon in rural BC, Canada

Thanks for the review! I have been using TomTom GPS units for any years, the latest being the Go Camper 6" earlier version (bought in 2019). I have been entering many of my own places, which are great to keep track of on the maps. Combined with the TomTom Mydrive app on smartphone, it is a great help when planning e trip. I will have to replace my unit after as it has been stolen 2 weeks ago (along with many other items) in our camper. I will no doubt go for this 7" version. Staying with TomTom I will keep the many addresses memorised as "My Places" in my TomTom account. Going from 6 to 7" will definitely a nice "plus".
